Who said protest wasn't fun?!

Today was declared a day of action on immigration with decentralised actions planned around the city. I found myself in the city centre where, in the main shopping street (which has revived itself since the exodus of shoppers over the weekend), some of the most imaginative protest I have seen since I arrived in Germany was taking place. A huge wall with bricks spelling out "For freedom of movement; solidarity with those sans papiers" was installed in the centre the centre, while around it there was a photo exhibition of powerful images of protest against the G8 countries' inhumane immigration policies, a recreation of a cell in a detention centre, complete with bunks and miserable-looking detainees, and various groups putting on entertaining and thought-provoking mime and street theatre.

Late afternoon I return to the camp to take part in an action training in anticipation of the blockades of the summit that are planned for the next few days
. Here a diverse group of international activists meet to discuss action objectives and tactics, and practise different methods of peaceful resistance, which has all involved in fits of laughter, particularly those taking the role of police! Who said protest wasn't fun?!
